The Victoria and Albert Museum is looking for a Taylor Swift superfan or ‘Swifty’ to join its team as an advisor. They discuss the culture and craftsmanship behind the handmade signs, friendship bracelets, and other memorabilia associated with the 14-time Grammy Award-winning artist, especially with her Elas Tour scheduled for Europe soon. Because of this, I want to know more.
It’s a tradition among Swift fans to exchange friendship bracelets at her concerts. The American singer was named the world’s best-selling recording artist in 2023 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).
London’s V&A already employs Toby jugs, Pokemon cards, Gorpcore clothing and Lego superfans. A Toby jug is an old English ceramic jug shaped like a seated figure, often dressed in 18th century clothing or resembling a famous person. Gorpcore is a fashion trend in which outdoor gear such as puffer jackets and fleeces are worn as everyday wear.
The museum is also looking for people who love Crocs shoes, emojis, drugs and more. It’s all part of the museum’s plan to increase “broad curatorial knowledge” by bringing in grassroots experts to support “specific cultural niches.”
The role has a set fee per session, which will be discussed with applicants at the interview stage.
Bob Moores, Toby Jug Superfan Advisor, said: “I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to turn my hobby of collecting early British Toby Jugs into a full-time job. I acquired my first Toby Jug around 25 years ago and since then I have developed an absolute passion for these quintessentially British jugs and have become an expert in this field at the V&A. It is a privilege to be allowed to work with him and the reward for doing so is an added bonus.”
Gorpcore’s superfan advisor Hanna da Silva said being recognized by the V&A was “a really great experience”. She said, “I am very fortunate to have been able to turn her interest in outdoor and technical wear into my career.”
“Through my community GorpGirls, more women are getting outdoors and at the forefront of the Gorpcore trend, which makes it even more special. To have this recognized by the V&A , it was a really great experience. Walking through the fashion exhibition was very interesting.” Learn more about the history of women in sports and how the clothes we wear have changed over time. ”
The museum’s recruitment drive stems from research showing that 44% of Britons believe items from private collections deserve a place in a museum. More than a quarter (27%) of UK collectors believe they know more about their chosen passion than experts.
Dr Tristram Hunt, Director of the Museum, said: ‘These new advisory roles will not only help us celebrate and discover more of the vast and often surprising creative diversity on offer at the V&A; It will also help me learn more about design.” Stories that are relevant to today’s audience. ”
“Already appointed to this role are four of the UK’s leading grassroots experts who have amassed decades of very niche expertise including Toby jugs, Gorpcore, Lego and Pokémon. I have experience with that.”
Interested applicants can now submit their applications via the V&A website from today.
