These are pretty tough times for regular Chuo Line users. Sure, we might get excited about the service’s super-swanky refurbished trains (which you can first see here), but the line has been hampered by severe delays for months. Ta. And now there’s even more bad news.
TfL is resolving delays and other issues with the Red Line, but it has now been revealed that it will run on an “emergency” schedule. Broken-down trains on the Chuo Line will be repaired and service will be normalized, but rush-hour commuters are expected to see service reduced by nearly a third.
As reported, standardMargaret Waite, customer affairs director for the Central, Waterloo & City and Victoria lines, told TfL staff:
“The new timetable will run an average of 21 trains per hour in the busiest directions during the evening peak hours, instead of the currently planned average of 30 trains per hour, but compared to the current Due to a problem with the vehicle, we are unable to transport it.”
Trains will run approximately every three minutes on the “core section” between White City and Leytonstone.
Some reductions on the Chuo Line had always been part of a plan to upgrade trains on the network. Red Line trains are being upgraded five or six at a time, meaning there will be fewer trains on the subway route than usual, but the suspension of service has made the situation even worse.
