Something unusual will happen on the railways at the end of March, when London Overground trains will stop at London Bridge station.
It will run all day on Easter Sunday (31 March), requiring an unusual London Overground service between London Bridge and West Croydon. Trains to and from London Bridge will not be running through the Sydenham Corridor on Easter Sunday due to Network Rail works. .
TfL could run a shuttle between New Cross and West Croydon, but people would want to go to central London, so TfL would run a train to London Bridge for the day so people could get back into the city and home. We have decided to take this option.
So for just one day, you’ll be able to ride the London Overground train from a station you wouldn’t normally board.
If you’re even a little bit of a train buff, you’ll definitely be very excited.
For the record, TfL told me that this has nothing to do with the proposed permanent service to London Bridge and that the Easter Sunday special will be due to engineering works. I have confirmed that only.
Rory O’Neill, TfL’s general manager for London Overground, said: The decision to temporarily run services to London Bridge was taken as no other operators were scheduled to enter the station via the Sydenham Corridor on Easter Sunday, meaning south London residents It was essential to ensure continued easy access to central London. There are currently no plans to launch a permanent service at London Bridge station, but we will continue to review our service to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our customers. ”
Due to engineering works, the London Underground will not run between Clapham Junction and Highbury & Islington over the Easter weekend (30th March to 1st April).
Train replacement buses will operate throughout the day on the following routes:
- Dalston Kingsland – Dalston Junction – New Cross Gate
- Canada Water – Surrey Quays – Clapham Junction
In addition, a London Overground shuttle service is provided for trains between New Cross Gate and West Croydon/Crystal Palace.
Saturday, March 30th
- New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace (2 trains per hour)
- New Crossgate and West Croydon (2 trains per hour)
Sunday, March 31st
- West Croydon and London Bridge (2 trains per hour) from approximately 9.30am to 11pm
Monday, April 1st
- New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace (2 trains per hour)
- New Crossgate and West Croydon (2 trains per hour)
Prior to that, two test runs will be held on Sunday, February 25th as part of driver training, and although you will not be able to ride the train, you will be able to watch from the sidelines if you wish.
The first train will leave Platform 5 at Crystal Palace at 10:11am and arrive at Platform 13 at London Bridge at 10:34am. It will then turn around and depart from London Bridge at 10:54am, arriving at Crystal Palace at 11:13am.
Platform 13 is located on the upper concourse of London Bridge, where trains terminate. Here you can find out what to expect on Easter Sunday.
