A busy Tube station in central London was forced to close early this evening and emergency services rushed to the scene this evening (Wednesday, January 31).
This man is on top of the statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus and can be seen clinging to the statue’s back from behind. He can be seen in a social media clip scrolling through his phone.
Piccadilly Circus tube station was closed by Transport for London but has since reopened. Videos posted on social media showed a large emergency presence in the area.
The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the man had climbed the statue and said they were concerned for his safety. A cordon is in place while they speak to the man.
London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are also at the scene.

Piccadilly Circus station reopens
Piccadilly Circus station has reopened, TfL has confirmed.
It has not been confirmed whether the man got off the statue.

Video shows firefighters trying to reach the man
A video posted by @CrimeLdn shows firefighters using a lift to reach the man on top of the statue.
The video shows a large crowd, as well as numerous police and emergency vehicles.

A4 southbound is closed due to an incident.
According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the A4 southbound from St James’s Station in the Piccadilly Circus area was closed to traffic due to the incident tonight.
The AA’s live traffic map shows significant delays on roads around Piccadilly Circus.
