The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had destroyed 16 of the 18 unmanned attack aircraft launched by Russia during the night over the capital.
The attack came just hours after Western leaders gathered in Kiev to mark the second anniversary of the Russian invasion.
The air force said the drone was destroyed over Poltava, Kiev, Khmelnytsky, Mykolaiv, Kirobohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts.
On Saturday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kiev and vowed Europe’s support until Ukraine is “finally free.”
Thousands of people gathered in capitals around the world to protest the war. In London, commemorations began with an interfaith prayer service at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Mayfair.
Thousands of people marched in Dublin to mark the second anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine, as Ireland’s deputy prime minister said Ukraine would “not give up” its support for Kiev.
Russian police have detained at least four people in Moscow, including a journalist, during a protest outside the Kremlin by wives of mobilized soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
Ukraine says it has destroyed 16 of 18 Russian-launched drones
Kiev’s military announced on Sunday that Ukraine had destroyed 16 of the 18 attack drones launched by Russia overnight.
The Air Force announced on the messaging app Telegram that Iranian-made drones were shot down in eight regions of central and southern Ukraine, including the capital region.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the drone was destroyed over Poltava, Kiev, Khmelnytsky, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts.
