Saying that an A-lister’s haute couture dress looks like it was made from curtains might normally be considered something of an insult.
But it’s more or less exactly what Lily James wore at London Fashion Week last night, a designer outfit inspired by drapes.
Not your average IKEA design, but a historic pattern from the late Duchess of Devonshire’s fabric collection.
Designer Erdem Moralioglu visited her family’s estate, Chatsworth House, where he visited the family originally known as Deborah Mitford, the youngest of the sisters who dominated London society in the 1930s and 1940s. were given rare access to the archives of fashionable socialites.
Moralioglu was inspired by chintz curtains to create designs such as the mustard floral jacket and skirt worn by Downton Abbey star Mrs. James to a show at the British Museum. The 34-year-old opened her jacket to reveal a white bralette and paired it with metallic gold stilettos.
Surrey-born James posted a glowing review of the show on Instagram, writing that the collection was “exquisite”. This kind of storytelling and beauty is woven into every detail. ”
She sat in the front row with fellow actresses Kristin Scott Thomas, 63, and Zawi Ashton, 39.
Scott Thomas wore a bright green maxi coat with a matching floral cut-out skirt and smart white shirt, while Ashton wore a blue ruffled dress.
Also at the show was Derry Girls and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, 37, who wore a bold red maxi dress, bold cherry red gloves and black stilettos, and the actress Ruth Wilson, 42, also wore a floral print maxi statement check coat. Print details.
They weren’t the only fashion week attendees to garner attention. One of them came wearing sunglasses whose frames were made of silver nuts and bolts. James is a long-time fan of the Erdem label and attended another London show last September.
There, she wore the designer’s black asymmetrical tiered maxi skirt (£731) and a gray alpaca-blend cropped jumper with black floral sequin detailing (£425).
Last week, the Mail revealed that filming had secretly begun on a new series of Downton Abbey, eight years after it last aired, but it was unclear whether James was involved.
