Let’s abolish the concept of due process and start convicting people based on personal opinion (“Remove Trump from ballot for incitement of insurrection,” Star-Advertiser Letters, February 1). After all, the concept that the accused is innocent until proven guilty is not really convenient for efforts to interfere in elections.
In alleging this folly, the letter’s author, Ilse Epple, said, “Our election was never in question until[Donald]Trump lost and the entire process was called ‘rigged.'” There is. It’s complete nonsense. The results of the 1824, 1876, 1912, 1960, 2000, and 2020 U.S. presidential elections were all contested by the losers, many of whom openly stated that the elections in question were “stolen.”
That such ignorance of history leads to a definitively false statement should be enough to undermine the argument on which that statement is based.
