This year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2024), the world’s largest mobile technology trade show, is underway in Barcelona, Spain. There are already so many amazing new gadgets out there.
The week-long event has seen announcements from companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo, and Tecno, all of whom seem to be pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the mobile space.
Without further ado, here are some of the most exciting gadgets unveiled at the annual trade show.
lenovo transparent laptop
No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. It’s just a transparent laptop.
Lenovo’s Project Crystal is a laptop concept with a 16-inch see-through microLED display. The first-of-its-kind device was commissioned by his company’s ThinkPad division, which wanted to integrate cutting-edge display technology and artificial intelligence (AI) software for a variety of real-world use cases. One such use case is using transparent displays to share information with someone sitting across the table. You can flip the display with just a few button presses without having to flip the entire laptop.

xiaomi 14 ultra
Xiaomi brought many new gadgets to MWC 2024, including the electric car SU7 and the robot CyberDog.
But what caught our eye was the Chinese tech giant’s latest flagship, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, a capable camera phone with all the bells and whistles.
The new phone comes with four 50MP lenses developed by Xiaomi in collaboration with Leica. The 1-inch primary lens has a variable aperture feature that allows you to adjust settings from f/1.63 to f/4.0. The telephoto lens has an f/1.8 aperture and 3.2x optical zoom, while the periscope lens has an f/2.5 aperture and 5x optical zoom. The ultra-wide-angle lens, on the other hand, has an f/1.8 aperture and a 122-degree field of view, allowing you to fit more into the frame.
You can also purchase a separate camera grip add-on for the Ultra 14 that allows you to use your phone just like a real camera. The grip, which includes a dedicated shutter release button, connects via USB-C and has customizable controls for adjusting other camera settings such as shutter speed, ISO, and aperture.
Samsung’s health tracking “Galaxy Ring”
Samsung’s new health-tracking wearable made a comeback at MWC 2024 after being unveiled at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in January.
The all-new device is designed to be a smartwatch replacement, featuring some of the same onboard sensors and trackers in a sleeker, sleeker form factor. The leading South Korean electronics company says it can monitor metrics such as pulse, body temperature, breathing, and sleep patterns.
Tecno Augmented Reality Game Handheld
Chinese mobile phone maker Tecno wants to take handheld gaming to the next level and introduce augmented reality (AR) technology to the portable PC market. Tecno’s Pocket Go is perhaps the industry’s first Windows AR gaming handheld, bringing AR capabilities to portable gaming devices.
Perhaps what sets Pocket Go apart from other products on the market is its support for AR. Rather than having all the important components in one device like the Steam Deck, Tecno’s latest innovation separates everything between his two devices: the AR glasses and the controller.
The AR glasses primarily serve as the device’s display and are equipped with a 0.71-inch microOLED panel, which Tecno touts as being able to emulate the experience of watching a 215-inch TV from 20 feet away. It also features adjustable diopter settings of up to 600 degrees and what the company calls his VisionTrack feature to track head movements and maximize eye comfort.
Meanwhile, the controller incorporates components that enhance the experience, including the Ryzen 7 8840HS, an octa-core and 28W APU with Radeon 780M integrated GPU. Inside, there’s also 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and a 50Wh replaceable battery.
Oppo’s AR glasses with voice assistant
Sticking to AR-enabled devices, Oppo announced its own set of AR glasses called Air Glass 3 at MWC 2024. At first glance, the prototype device resembles traditional glasses, but it has AR capabilities that allow it to overlay digital content. How you see the real world when you’re wearing it.
Additionally, the glasses come with a voice assistant powered by AndesGPT, the Chinese phone maker’s proprietary large-scale language model (LLM). This allows you to talk to your assistant and ask it to perform certain tasks, such as finding information.
Oppo says Air Glass 3 must be connected to an Oppo device to work. The company also hasn’t yet said whether the device will eventually be released to the public.
motorola rollable mobile phone
Late last year, Motorola introduced the Rollable Phone, which demonstrated advances in flexible display technology. The company brought the same phone, called Adaptive Display, to his MWC 2024 to further show off its features.
The phone basically functions like a foldable, except it doesn’t have a hinge and can arch and swivel. This design feature allows you to wrap your phone around your wrist like some kind of smart bracelet.
