Lamine Yamal scored a stunning goal for Spain on Tuesday, becoming the youngest player ever to score at the Men’s European Championships.
The 16-year-old Lamar fired a long-range shot into the top corner from outside the France penalty area to tie the score after Randall Kolo Muani’s early opener in the Euro 2024 semi-final.
With this goal, the winger broke a record that had stood for 20 years – Johan Vonlanthen, then 18, scored for Switzerland against France at Euro 2004, four days before Wayne Rooney had set the record by scoring against Switzerland.
Isabelle Herlovsen remains the youngest player ever to score at a European Championship. The Norwegian was 11 days younger than Yamal when she scored against France in 2005.
Shortly after Yamal’s goal, teammate Dani Olmo saw his shot deflect into the French goal after being blocked by Jules Koundé.
Yamal has been one of the standout performers at Euro 2024 in Germany, with Spain widely agreed to be the most impressive team themselves.
Luis de la Fuente’s team comfortably beat Georgia in the round of 16 and hosts Germany in the quarter-finals. Prior to these matches, La Roja They easily beat Croatia, Italy and Albania to comfortably finish first in their group.
