
Srinagar- The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) on Wednesday ordered a complete ban on procurement and sale of nichrome coil-based heating appliances in the valley.
According to the order, KPDCL announced in 2018 that the government had ordered a complete ban on the manufacture, import, transportation, sale, purchase and use of nichrome coil-based crude oil heaters, boilers and steamers.
The manufacturer said it did not comply with the specifications required by BIS or the International Electrotechnical Commission.
“Following the above orders, all electricity departments have done a great job in seizing these crude heating appliances from majority of consumers,” KPDCL said.
The order further states that after the seizure, consumers purchase new nichrome coil-based shoddy equipment from the readily available market and go back to abusing electricity, thereby nullifying the tireless efforts put in. It has been observed that
To permanently eliminate nichrome coil-based heaters, boilers and steamers from the market, KPDCL has directed all divisional officers to implement the order by distributing copies among establishments dealing with electrical equipment items .
“Nichrome coil-based heating devices are advised not to be purchased or sold, and failure to do so will result in confiscation,” it reads.
KPDCL, therefore, advised the concerned parties to approach the district administration to ensure compliance with the orders issued by the government.
