Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo said he had proposed a 40 billion intervention fund to the president to strengthen airport operations.
This fund is still in preparation but is expected to be released by the President in the near future.
The Minister made this known in an interview with Channels TV’s Seun Okinbaloyi on Politics Today, where he announced in his official capacity on Wednesday that the We discussed the federal government’s strategy.
Mr. Keyamo revealed that soon after taking office, he consulted with the President on urgent interventions needed to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction, with a focus on airports across the country, especially international airports.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu is on board with the idea of procuring state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the airport. Keyamo, however, noted that the federal government was yet to release the funds.
40 billion Norwegian uses
- Keyamo said that part of the N40 billion will be allocated to the implementation of the Safe Tower project. The initiative aims to strengthen air traffic control towers at five international airports and 12 other airports strategically selected across six geopolitical zones.
- The minister said that the gadgets and equipment needed to increase the efficiency of air traffic control towers under the Safe Towers project are already ready in Norway, pending when the funds for payment will be disbursed. Stated.
- Procurement of DVOR (Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Range) equipment at airports nationwide. According to the minister, DVOR allows pilots to land their aircraft seamlessly even under unfavorable conditions.
- The minister also disclosed that part of the N40 billion will be used for the procurement of modern ILS (Instrument Landing System) for five international airports and several other airports. ILS acts as a precision landing aid, providing precise heading and descent guidance to aircraft in a variety of weather conditions. It serves as a reliable way for pilots to navigate to the runway, providing precise lateral and vertical guidance.
- Keyamo disclosed that the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development would use part of the planned N40 billion to strengthen the total radar coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) for airspace safety and security. .
- The minister also said that the procurement of landing and navigation equipment for the airport was part of the proposed N40 billion.
- Keyamo also pointed out that the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development plans to procure Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) for airports across the country.
