Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham has been named the world’s most valuable footballer in the latest Top Trumps to be published, boasting that a British player is the most expensive.
Jude Bellingham has beaten off his rivals to be named the world’s most valuable footballer.
The 20-year-old English ace, who won La Liga and the European Cup with Real Madrid, can now add Top Trumps’ No1 rating to his list of honours, with a total of 200 players featured in the popular card game’s new World Football Stars series, which will be released progressively over the coming months.
The cards list numerical data and which card can be used as a “trump” to win an opponent’s card. Bellingham, who travels to Germany next week with England for Euro 2024, is estimated by the game’s makers to be worth 150 million euros (£128 million).
A Top Trumps spokesman said: “Jude Bellingham has been ranked number one primarily due to his market value, extraordinary talent and potential.”
“Despite only being 20 years old and at the start of his career, his incredible performances on the field and leadership qualities have already set him apart from other players. His ability to dominate in midfield and his consistency at the highest level of competition make him an inspirational player.”
Bellingham, who will be rested for England’s final warm-up match on Friday, is a leading contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or, awarded to the world’s best player. The midfielder, from Stourbridge in the West Midlands, joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last year for a fee of £88 million.
He scored 22 goals as Real won the Spanish title, was named La Liga Player of the Season and shone again as Madrid beat Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final on Saturday. His mother, Denise, father, Marc and older brother Jobe, 18, who plays for Sunderland, were with him on the pitch at Wembley Stadium after the game.
Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Argentina star Lionel Messi, 36, is worth €35 million (£30 million) on the Top Trumps list, coming in fifth. Other women on the list include Lioness Keira Walsh of England. The top female is Poland’s Ewa Pajor, who is ranked 32nd in the world.
