Henderson lost his tour card in 2022 and hasn’t been able to get it back since, falling just short in the latest edition of Q-School. Coupled with the fact that he is now 50 years old, he was able to compete in the Senior World Championships held at the Circus Tavern.
And the Scotsman showed what he’s capable of throughout the tournament, defeating everyone in front of him to win the title. Henderson was tested against Trina Gulliver, Kevin Painter, Andy Hamilton, and Jim Long, averaging 92.91 points against the latter to qualify for the finals.

He defeated McGarry 5-0 in the final, dropping just six legs en route to victory. Henderson also averaged 86.72 points during the match, becoming the senior champion for the first time, much to the delight of darts fans.
One person wrote: “Great performance in the final from the big hendo. Fully deserved.” Meanwhile, another said: “Nothing like this would ever happen to such a kind man.” A third added: “John Henderson played well. He played really well in the final. Good run from Colin McGarry.”
Henderson said after the match: “It was great to win the World Cup with Peter Wright, but this is just around the corner. After two years with Robert, it’s good to keep the trophy north of the border. That’s a big thing for me.”
But it was a tournament to remember for 16-time world champion Phil Taylor, who lost in the first round to little-known German star Manfred Bildahl. The Power lost by an average of just 74.53 points in what could be their last game on television.
