Jeff Bezos sold 12 million shares of Amazon.com this week, the first time the billionaire has sold the company since 2021.
The sale took place on Wednesday and Thursday and had a net proceeds of just over $2 billion, according to the filing.
Amazon revealed on February 2 that Mr. Bezos plans to sell up to 50 million Amazon shares over the next 12 months, potentially taking advantage of a surge in stock prices that puts the world’s richest man within reach. Amazon’s founder has sold more than $30 billion in stock since records dating back to 2002, including about $20 billion in 2020 and 2021 combined. He has primarily made stock gifts, including about $230 million worth of stock given to nonprofit organizations in November.
Amazon declined to comment through a spokesperson.
