ITV releases cultural advisory board update
Following the start of 2021, ITV will announce further updates to its Cultural Advisory Panel. We recently updated our membership for the second term. Professor Jason Arday – Professor of Sociology of Education, University of Cambridge; Jenny Lay-Flurrie – Chief Accessibility Officer, Microsoft. and Sarah Wajid MBE – Co-CEO, Birmingham Museums Trust.
Professor Arday, Professor Ray-Fleury and Mr Wajid join the inaugural members of ITV’s Cultural Advisory Board Sinead Burke – Founder and CEO of Tilting the Lens. Dr Halima Begum – ActionAid UK CEO, Priscilla Baffour – Global Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Director, Unilever. Professor Sam Freedman – Professor of Sociology, London School of Economics. Dr. Shani Dhanda – Disability Inclusion and Accessibility Strategist and Consultant. The Chair of the Cultural Advisory Council is Sinead Burke.
The purpose of ITV’s Cultural Advisory Board is to: We provide independent external advice from a range of industries to challenge and provide feedback to ITV. This helps support ITV distribution. Diversity promotion plan Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy – Focusing on mainstream content, opportunity creation, inclusive culture, accessibility and disability equity, connecting and reflecting modern audiences so that no one Everyone should create and introduce content. The Cultural Advisory Board meets quarterly with Carolyn McCall, ITV’s chief executive, and Ade Rawcliffe, group director of diversity and inclusion, along with other senior members of ITV, and so far , has supported ITV in introducing working class objectives. Jason Arday is Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Cambridge. Previously, Jason was Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Glasgow and Associate Professor of Sociology and Associate Dean for People and Culture in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health at Durham University. He is a trustee of the Runnymede Trust and the British Sociological Society. Jason’s research focuses on race, education and social justice, and he has worked extensively with parliaments and other policy organizations in England, Scotland and Wales. Jason was named in the top 10 of the Disability Power 100 list in 2023.
Jenny Lay-Flurrie, Chief Accessibility Officer at Microsoft Corporation, champions inclusion, equity, and views accessibility as a fundamental right. Jenny has spearheaded Microsoft’s inclusive approach to accessibility since 2016, fostering a culture of disability inclusion while championing responsibility, technology and innovation. Jenny identifies herself as deaf. She has a Disability: IN and she is a member of Team Gleason’s board of directors. She was recognized by the White House as a Disability Employment Change Champion (2014). She is one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business (2017). She and Forbes (2023) list of leaders influencing the “Future of Work”.
Sarah Wajid MBE is joint CEO of Birmingham Museums Trust. She is the first British Asian director of a major museum in the UK. In addition to working as an artists’ book editor and literary journalist, she previously taught modern African languages at the Oriental School and received her honorary doctorate from the University of York. She is the recipient of the Arts Council Changemaker Award, which recognizes underrepresented leaders in the field. In 2014, she founded the Museum Detox Network for People of Color to promote anti-racism and equity in museums. Sarah identifies as bisexual and is a campaigner for racial and gender equality in museums.
