Spanish Antonio Benito Lopez The 29-year-old achieved an unforgettable victory in the Basque Country this weekend, crossing the finish line in front of his home crowd at Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The race was dramatic, with the current Ironman World Champion, Sam Laidlawwas disqualified in the final stages of the bike race for not taking a drafting penalty. The Frenchman protested but continued on, but his disqualification was finalised after the race had finished.
This means the Frenchman, who was trying to secure qualification for the Ironman World Championships in Kona in October, will have to compete in one more full-distance event before the big event in Hawaii.
Numerous battles were fought during the escape. David McNamee Ineos Grenadiers Team finished in second place. Cameron Wharf put off Bradley Weiss He rounded out the podium in third place.
