
The Men’s Indoor Asia Cup 2024 concluded last weekend with Iran winning the championship with a convincing 7-1 victory over Malaysia in the final, with both teams qualifying for the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in 2025. Porec, Croatia, 3-9 February 2025.
Eight teams participated in the Men’s Indoor Asia Cup 2024, which was held in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan from 21-25 May 2024. Iran, Thailand, Singapore and Tajikistan were placed in Pool A, while Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Oman were placed in Pool B.
Iran, an eight-time champion of the tournament, won all their matches in Pool A, with Thailand coming in second. Malaysia topped Pool B, with hosts Kazakhstan coming in second. The Indoor Asia Cup 2024 format will see the top two teams from each pool combined into one pool to play in the round-robin stage of the second round. Iran once again topped their pool with two wins and one draw. Malaysia came in second with one win and two draws.
Iran and Malaysia advanced to the finals as the top two teams from the second round robin and with two spots available from the tournament, both teams qualified to compete in the premier indoor hockey tournament.

The final was a stark contrast to the pool stage match between Iran and Malaysia, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Iran showed championship spirit, scoring four consecutive goals in the first quarter to virtually secure victory. The final score was 7-1 for Iran, who won their ninth consecutive Indoor Asian Cup title. They will once again be among the top teams at the World Cup. In the 2018 tournament, they were the first Asian team to reach the podium with a bronze medal. They then went on to win bronze again at the 2023 Potchefstrom tournament.
