Inside Track | Building a Culture of Inclusive Health and Wellbeing
“We have a collective responsibility to build a culture that is open, understanding, and inclusive.”

We are preparing to launch the university’s first organization-wide approach to workplace health and wellbeing. Patrick Craig, Leeds’ Health and Social Care Director, outlines why the plan is so important, reflects on how it has been shaped by listening to the community, and reflects on how the plan has been shaped by listening to community voices. We will explain how you can participate.
After two years of consultation and engagement with colleagues across the university, ‘Our Wellbeing Together’ will be published next month.
“Do I need another plan?” is probably the question many people ask. The simple answer is yes. While the University’s 10-year strategic vision sets out overarching priorities and goals to create a supportive and inclusive work environment, ‘Our Wellbeing Together’ defines the commitment we are making to support. We respond to these high-level efforts by creating a detailed framework for the actions we are taking. Co-workers’ health and well-being needs.
It is estimated that the average person spends one-third of their life at work. This is a significant amount of time and highlights how important it is for universities to invest in staff wellbeing, provide clear guidance and effective systems, and embed these consistently throughout the organization. I’m doing it.
What does that mean to me?
Research consistently shows that maintaining good workplace health and wellbeing benefits individuals. Employees who feel that their organization prioritizes their mental and physical health are more likely to feel valued, more motivated, and have higher levels of well-being, both at work and outside of work. will be higher.
The pledges of the organizations behind ‘Our Wellbeing Together’ are as follows: We will continue to work together to ensure we implement programs and services that meet the workplace well-being needs of our employees, resulting in a more connected, healthy and happy workforce. ”
This statement is not an abstract vision. Our plan to realize this pledge is action-focused, measurable, and seeking feedback from colleagues to understand what is and isn’t working. We will continue to evolve.
Through the activities set out in our six-year plan, we aim to create an inclusive culture of health and wellbeing that supports our diverse communities. We believe that this important work will ensure that Leeds is seen by residents as a rewarding place to work and by the local community as an employer of choice.
Listen to the community
Listening to our communities is central to determining the direction of our work. Our goal is to continue working with our colleagues to understand our strengths and identify where we need improvement. The results of the 2023 Employee Engagement Survey provide clear insight into what matters most to your colleagues and shape where and how you focus your attention to drive meaningful, positive change. Masu.
The title ‘Our Wellbeing Together’ recognizes that we need everyone’s support to make this work a success. We have a collective responsibility to create a culture of openness, understanding and inclusion, and we have a collective responsibility to work with communities to provide them with the knowledge, support and support to meet their own well-being needs and those around them. We will work to secure resources.
Delivered through partnership and collaboration
Our plan is deliberately ambitious and has been developed through significant partnership work including Wellbeing, Safety, Health, Health, Safety and Health. Equality and Inclusion Unit. General Administration of People’s Culture. Student Support Services; Information Technology; and the Facilities Directorate. Engagement in these areas is critical to ensuring that our work is aligned and complementary rather than redundant.
