The St Lucia administration said the pitch was nice and hard and should remain so throughout the day match. “Both teams should score 180-200 runs. I prefer to bat and score runs. England batted poorly. The pitch became a bit unwieldy and the ball did not come in well,” a groundskeeper at the Darren Sammy Stadium told PTI.
West Indies scored 218 in this day-night match, the highest total of the tournament, despite some dew making batting easier. In the only day match prior to this one, South Africa defended 163 against England. It is worth noting that in the day match between England and South Africa, the spinners were in good form, with Proteas’ Keshav Maharaj scoring a couple of runs. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali each scored one run. The main square top-dressing was done five months ago as part of World Cup preparations. Sri Lanka also scored 201 against the Netherlands here. As in Barbados and Antigua, the wind will be a factor.
