Cacace was quick to praise his team for a tactical plan that he felt helped propel an underdog team to victory.
“I’m going to give props to Joe. He’s a very good fighter, a two-time world champion and an Olympian,” he said.
“Tonight was my night. I didn’t feel like anything was wrong.
“We had a great game plan. We worked on making good use of our hooks and working them out thoroughly.
“Everything we worked for came off. Body shots, hooks, everything, and I got him out of there in devastating fashion.”
“No one believed me.”
Before stepping into the ring, Cacace said winning the biggest fight of his 12-year career was “life-changing” and after taking the belt, he wants to share his success with those who helped him win the title. That’s what I was thinking.
“This is a shock to people,” he added.
“I was down 4-1 against the bookmakers.
“No one believed in me, but I believed in me and everyone around me believed in me.
“I’m really happy, not just for me, but for my family and for everyone who has spent their hard-earned money to come here and support me.
“Thank you everyone. I couldn’t have done this by myself.
“I just want to go home and watch it. [my family]. I can’t wait to get home and spend a few weeks with them. ”
