What are the rules for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup?
The tournament will be played in T20 format, so both teams will have 20 overs unless they are bowled out beforehand or unless the team batting second has reached the target by then.
Each innings begins with a powerplay of six overs, with varying fielding restrictions at that stage.
A match lasts 3 hours and 10 minutes, with each inning allotted 1 hour and 25 minutes, separated by 20-minute intervals.
This tournament will be the first to introduce a ‘stop clock’, meaning the bowling side must be ready to bowl each over within 60 seconds of the end of the previous over.
Each team is allowed two failure reviews per inning.
If each team has an equal number of runs after 20 overs, the match moves to a super over (each team faces six balls, with the highest score winning). If this results in a tie, the Super Over will continue until a winner is found.
In the two group phases, each team must play a minimum of five overs to determine the result, but that increases to 10 overs in the semi-finals and final.
If the match is then canceled due to weather conditions, DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) will be used to determine the winner.
There will be a preliminary day for the first semi-final and final, but only 250 minutes of additional time will be given for the second semi-final.
It has already been decided that if India advances to the semi-finals, they will play each other in the second match.
