I’ve always been a fan of beauty devices and treatments that use technology to improve the appearance of the skin. First, I used devices specifically to reduce dark circles around my eyes, then I wanted to try an LED face mask that was said to brighten the complexion and stimulate collagen. At 38 years old, I felt I needed to invest more in devices with anti-aging properties, especially those that tighten and lift the skin. This is where microcurrent comes in. It works directly on the muscles in your face, contracting and relaxing them, “training” them in the same way you train your body muscles at the gym.
One name that came up again and again in my research was Ziip Halo, an at-home microcurrent and nanocurrent device known for being used by A-list celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, and Kim Kardashian to massage their faces before walking the red carpet. The device is said to provide an instant lifting effect, as well as improve the overall texture and appearance of skin with continued long-term use. Attracted by this promise (and celeb endorsement), I decided to give it a try for a couple of months.
How do Microcurrent and Nanocurrent Work?
Ziip Halo uses “dual waveform” technology that combines microcurrent and nanocurrent. By using different waveforms of these two types of current (26 to be exact), you can reach different depths of the skin and get results from the very first session. This device is unique in that it combines two types of current.
- Microcurrent is a high-frequency, low-level electrical current that acts on the facial muscles, contracting and relaxing them, resulting in muscle tone. The effects can last up to 72 hours.
- NanoCurrent is a much lower electrical current that mimics the electrical impulses the brain sends to skin cells to support skin cell function, collagen production and cell regeneration, aiming to rejuvenate skin from the inside out. With consistent use, visible results can be seen within 6 weeks.
Who is it suitable for?
- Those who wish to achieve a firming and lifting effect on the skin, especially around the jawline, nasolabial folds, cheekbones and brows.
- People who want an immediate lifting effect in preparation for an important event.
- If you want to boost collagen production.
Pros (and one con)
- The results will be displayed immediately.
- The basic treatment takes just three minutes to complete and can easily be incorporated into your existing skincare routine.
- It doesn’t require any effort.
- I promise you immediate results and The combination of microcurrents and nanocurrents provides lasting effects over time.
- The lifting effect of microcurrent lasts for up to 72 hours, so continued use is required to maintain results.
Does it hurt?
The short answer is no. You may feel a slight vibration sensation in certain areas of your face, such as your eyebrows and hairline, and feel (and see!) the muscles around your eyes contracting.
