When I first heard about exercise snacking, I was worried that it might just be a diet trend making its rounds on social media. However, this assumption was far from the truth. Exercise snacking refers to short, intense physical activities that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine.
This is basically a simple solution to getting up and moving more during the day, which can improve both your physical and mental health. So if you don’t have time to go to the gym or try out those new running shoes you bought for Christmas, you can still maintain your activity level by exercising while snacking.
“Many of us face time constraints due to work, family, or other commitments, and many of us don’t have long hours for traditional workouts,” says Amanda Place, personal trainer and founder of Sculptorition. is difficult to find.
“Snacking allows individuals to break up their activities throughout the day into shorter, more manageable sessions.” This piqued my interest. As a fitness writer, my week is pretty intense.
Between trying out new workout classes, like the latest low-former Pilates class in my neighborhood, and training for a marathon, I spend a lot of time being physically active.
So I was curious to see what would happen if I reduced my normal amount of exercise and relied solely on exercise snacks for a week. This is what I found.
I tried exercising while snacking every day for a week – here are the results
The main guidelines for exercise snacking are pretty relaxed as long as you move in short bursts throughout the day, so we’ve kept it as simple as possible.
My snacks varied, including 2 minutes of bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, and planks before leaving the house for work. Then, whenever I had the option to go up the stairs, I did so at a faster pace to get my heart rate up.
And when I worked remotely, I made it a goal to stand up every hour and do chair exercises like Bulgarian split squats, push-ups, and tricep dips. And every once in a while, I would get up from my desk and freestyle some yoga or mobility moves on one of his best yoga mats.

Additionally, the scientific evidence regarding snacking during exercise is starting to look promising. According to an article published in Exercise and Sports Science Reviews, one minute of intense exercise throughout the day can improve your cardiovascular fitness.
I didn’t feel guilty
Before we get into it, I want to point out that you don’t have to feel guilty if you have days when you don’t exercise. This is not the essence of exercise. It’s about feeling better, so having a rest day can help with this.
But sometimes you can feel lazy if you don’t leave the house all day, if life is too busy, or if you skip running or going to the gym because you don’t feel like it. When I started exercising while snacking, I was able to break up the long periods of sitting with movement and felt much less sluggish by the end of the day.

I felt like I had more energy.
Not only did I say goodbye to the guilt of not incorporating enough 45-minute workouts into my day, but I also felt more energized by getting up and moving regularly throughout the day.
Don’t get me wrong. I love the runner’s high I experience when training for a marathon or participating in a parkrun. However, it is not always possible to find time for these activities. That’s why exercise snacking is such a fun way to stay active and boost your mood.
Mr. Place agreed. “Short periods of exercise can lead to improved energy levels and alertness, which can be helpful during a busy day when you might experience fatigue or a midday slump. Physical activity also stimulates the release of dopamine and endorphins. and contribute to improved mood and cognitive function,” she noted.
verdict
After trying exercising while snacking for a week, I can definitely see a lot of good things about this new exercise trend. It’s a cost-effective and convenient way to increase your activity levels and also lift your mood.
Does it benefit everyone? Of course, if you continue to exercise regularly and maintain a good fitness level, you won’t feel like an athlete if you only replace snacking with exercise.
Nevertheless, it’s the small benefits that really matter from exercise snacks. This is the perfect solution for people who have very busy work schedules but still want to get some exercise during the week.
And it’s important to stay active as you get older, or move around a little if you have a desk-based job. Exercise snacks are an ideal option as they can improve your physical health with small amounts of exercise throughout the day. You don’t have to leave your house or buy expensive equipment for this.
