From Geordie Shore and TOWIE to Tinie Tempah and The Office, we introduce you to American women obsessed with British culture.
Fatu, a podcast host from Los Angeles, admitted that he grew up aspiring to be from the UK and was immersed in everything to do with the country.
Her taste in music, the TV shows she watches and even her favorite celebrities are all influenced by Britain, and people online are calling for her to be made an ‘Honorary Briton’.
Her TikToks, posted under the handle @fa2chainz, reveal her charm and have already been viewed by more than 1.2 million people.
The American captioned the clip: “I’m British but I don’t care.” I love beans on toast! ”
Explaining how her love for England began, she explained: “Am I the only American who randomly decided to become British in middle school or high school?”
“I was obsessed with Jersey Shore like everyone else. So, as I was watching it, I realized there was a British version of the show called Geordie Shore, and I thought, “Geordie Shore, what is that?” ” I thought.
“Then I found out about this amazing, mystical place called Newcastle and I thought, ‘This is Geordie!’”
“I listen to the theme song while watching the show, and this girl says this line in the theme song.”
Pulling out a clip of Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan talking about her breasts, Fatu continued: “She says, ‘This is Heidi, this is Audrina, and every time that song comes on, it’s like, ‘Heidi and Audrina are going to eat your heart out.'” “This is baby. We are.”
“What does that mean?” Heidi and Audrina from The Hills, is this some kind of British slang?
“I Googled it and found out it came from a line from the song ‘Pass Out’ by Tinie Tempah. Who is Tinie Tempah? That’s what it felt like. I’ve never heard of him. ”
“So I played that song and fell in love with it, so I listened to the whole album, Disc-Overy. It’s still one of my favorite albums.” I was completely hooked. Ta.
The influencer quickly finished all seasons of Geordie Shore that were being released at the time, but admits she “needed more”.
Fatu said: “So I started watching all the British reality shows: Supersize vs. Superskinny, Secret Eaters, The Only Way Is Essex.”
“Of course I was annoying, I was going to make being British my whole personality. I was speaking with a British accent in class.
“People were talking about, ‘Oh, my favorite celebrity is Justin Bieber, I love Zac Efron, and have you ever heard of Peter Andre?’
“I listened to all the Tinie Tempah albums. That’s when I started listening to Dizzee Rascal and other British rappers.”
Laughing, she recalled: People ask, “What kind of music do you listen to?” And I would say, “This British girl group.”
“They’ll ask, ‘Oh, the Spice Girls?'” “No, I’m listening to Girls Aloud. I’m listening to All Saints.”
“And don’t even get me started on The Office. As soon as everyone got into The Office, I was like, ‘The British version is better, the British version is so much more interesting.’
“I think the American version was better now, but at the time it was annoying.
“Every time I heard Tinie Tempah or any other rapper mention something in a song, I had to Google it.
“When he said this, ‘Would you risk it for a chocolate biscuit?’ What does that mean? I Googled it.
“When he said, ‘I call her Trisha because she likes to talk a lot,’ I thought, ‘Who is Trisha?'” Who is Trisha Goddard? Please take a research on it.”
The LA native has become an expert when it comes to British pop culture, learning every obscure reference one by one.
She went on to say: “Do you all read Harry Potter, even though I had to be a nuisance even if I had the book?” I read Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging I’m here. I’m reading “Mates, Dates, and Inflatable Bras.”
“Just like when Katie Price, aka Jordan, strangled me. I was watching ‘Skins’ and ‘The Inbetweeners.’
“When I was in high school I would say I was ‘in the sixth form and preparing for my A-levels.’ I didn’t even know what that meant.”
“To this day, I still don’t even know what GCSEs are. I haven’t even gotten to that part.
Hilariously, she ends the clip with a revelation. “So imagine I’m obsessed with England. I love England.” Finally going to London for the first time in her life. You could be held for eight hours at London Gatwick Airport, but that’s a story for another day. ”
In the comments, the Briton could not contain his surprise at the “astonishing” amount of niche information the American public knows.
One person from the UK wrote: “I’m really crying because you did it right. It’s like Tinie Tempah, Peter Andre, Girls Aloud…I wasn’t expecting Jordan.”
Another wrote: “It was incredible.” You should be able to get a master’s degree in British culture. ”
Meanwhile, a third added: “When you started that video I didn’t expect you to actually be a UK expert!” The question is, are you brewing the tea properly?
