When and how did you decide to become a financial advisor?
I started working at Tucker Anthony NYC in 1991 as an assistant to the managing director of Syndicate. I fell in love with this industry. That’s when I decided I wanted to pursue a career in finance. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Miami and joined DLJ. The rest is history.
What do you think has contributed to your growth in the industry?
I have been very fortunate to have had great mentors throughout my career. I loved reading and learning about markets, finance, and economics. Lots of long hours and dedication. Enjoying what you do is a huge factor in a person’s growth and success. Life is too short to not enjoy your work.
Do women face unique challenges or disadvantages in their pursuit of success?
The biggest challenge is how to remain a member of the Wall Street Boys Club while being a wife and mother. When men are networking after hours, women are expected to go home and be moms. I tried to manage my time to the best of my ability to accomplish both.
What advice would you give to women who are just entering the financial industry or who are hesitant to move up the ranks?
My advice is to surround yourself with good people who will help and support your growth. Focus on what you want to achieve and move towards it. The sky is the limit.
What is your favorite moment in your career?
It was very exciting to have the opportunity to open the IPG Miami office in 2016. I had the freedom to choose the location, furniture, decor and most importantly the team.
How can companies in your industry foster a more inclusive environment in the workplace?
I believe culture starts at the top. IPG has several talented and accomplished women in high-level positions. That being said, we will hire the most qualified person for the position that needs to be filled.
