For years, and more often these days, I have read complaints about Recorder columnists and their politics. Most people suggest that too few conservative viewpoints are represented, and that most regular writers belong to a certain demographic.
As a regular contributor and a member of that category (old white guy on the left), I wholeheartedly agree. I would like to meet more diverse opinions and writers. However, you should understand that all columns are volunteer efforts. We believe that Recorder will print almost anything you send to us if it meets certain minimum standards. The Recorder itself does not solicit, sponsor, or compensate columnists other than to print what they write. People write columns because they have something to say, want to make a point, and/or want to persuade others of their point of view.
So if people want a different perspective or a different writer, they have to write it themselves or convince others to do so. The Recorder is not currently in the business of selecting or paying writers for its editorial pages. (By the way: This letter was not solicited, supported, or compensated by the recorder, except for the possibility of publication.)
