Gordon Ramsay is changing plans to renovate his £7 million London mansion so it blends in with its neighbours.
MailOnline can reveal that the 57-year-old celebrity chef is changing the style of the gate at his south London home.
In planning documents submitted to London Borough of Wandsworth Council, the City of Gordon requested a new wooden gate rather than a steel gate as originally planned.
Gordon’s planning agent said the revised gate plan would be “more in keeping with the streetscape and enhance the appearance of the conservation area”.
His stunning family home in Wandsworth, south-west London, is in a conservation area of special architectural and historical interest.
In these areas, special planning controls are applied to the development to maintain its character and appearance.
Documents say the gate “matches” one of Gordon’s neighbor’s properties, which has a gate of similar design.
The Hell’s Kitchen star is embarking on a major refurbishment of his multi-million pound property in London, which will see the creation of a wine shop and a master bedroom that takes up an entire floor.
Gordon’s extensive property remodeling includes adding 76 square meters to his family home.
In the basement, the celebrity chef will have space for another en-suite bedroom, a study, a factory room, a boot room and a shower room.
A glass well in the basement was also included in the design to allow natural light to flow into the property.
Under the South London property scheme, the chef also demolished the entire ground floor of his home to add a modern glass-designed extension housing an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room.
In addition to changing the property’s entrance and basement, Gordon is also renovating the second floor of his home and adding new walls and a garage.
Sheff’s planning agents claim the plans “create a functional layout throughout the home, increasing room sizes while optimizing living facilities and opportunities on the site”. .
Wandsworth City Council approved a major initial refurbishment in 2021 and an application to modify the gate is being considered by planners.
Work on the extension began in September 2021, but due to the site’s location in a conversation area, workers are restricted to using “non-mechanical” tools during some parts of the renovation.
There is also a Purple Beach tree in front of the house that is said to be under a tree preservation order, while other trees in the garden are in root protection areas.
The study said demolition and excavation work should be done “by hand using non-mechanical tools on hand” and construction workers should be “instructed” on how to work around trees.
The celebrity chef has been meeting with neighbors about major building works, with his agent writing in planning documents: “Meetings have been held with the owners to discuss the proposals and no negative feedback has been received.” “I haven’t,” he added.
Gordon previously secured planning permission to build two ultra-trendy igloos at his London home.
In 2019, the foul-mouthed chef submitted plans to put a log cabin in his backyard to create more living space for friends and family.
The chic cabins cost £40,000 each and have three external windows and a small door, and are clad in spruce shingles and plywood battens.
Meanwhile, the interior of the luxury pod includes a fully functional kitchen, double bed, electric heating, shower, storage, power point and TV cable.
Manufactured in Estonia and then shipped to the UK.
Gordon follows the trend set by David Beckham and Guy Ritchie, who brought in similar ‘igloo-style’ sheds from the same Estonian supplier and had them installed in their rural homes in Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
The cabin, known as ‘Model 4’, is located in the expansive garden of the eight-bedroom Victorian home he lives with Tana and their four older children Megan, 25, and twins Jack and Holly, 23. They are placed facing each other in the back. Matilda 21 years old and Oscar 4 years old.
Wandsworth City Council gave the plan the go-ahead, but advised Gordon that he would need to arrange a meeting with an arborist who would come to inspect the trees.
Meanwhile, in 2022, Gordon sold one of his homes in Cornwall for £7.5 million, thought to be the most expensive sale ever recorded in the county.
Daymer Bay House in Trevetherick, a one-hectare (2.5-acre) property with six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a swimming pool and a tennis court, was sold in March last year. He paid £4.4 million for the luxury seaside property in 2016.
