Google has introduced new features to Gemini, its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot. This new feature gives users fine-grained control over the responses generated to prompts, allowing them to change specific parts of the text. Users can regenerate the selected part, edit its length, or delete it completely. This feature is currently only available in the web app version and has not been extended to apps. Notably, Google recently announced several new AI features for Android devices.
Google announced this new feature in a post, saying, “Start a more precise way to tune Gemini’s responses. Start in English in the Gemini web app, select the part of text you want to change, and tell Gemini what to do. This feature enhances the user’s creative process by allowing them to modify parts of the response rather than completely regenerating it. Added to allow more control.
Once a response to a prompt is generated, users can select and highlight any part of the text. If you highlight it here, you’ll see a pencil icon inside a circle. The Gemini logo also appears next to the pencil. When you hover the arrow over the icon, you’ll see a description that says, “Changes the selected text.” When you click on this icon, you will see four options: “Regenerate”, “Shorten”, “Extend”, and “Delete”.
The option does exactly what its name suggests. Regenerating changes some of the text and generates it again. “Short” and “Long” increase or decrease the length of the topic, and “Delete” permanently deletes the topic. Moreover, users can also add prompts to that particular part and modify it.
This is a useful feature. Anyone who has spent time with AI chatbots knows that the great responses they produce can often be ruined with just one sentence. So far, the solution to this problem has been to regenerate the entire content or make changes to the prompt and repeat it infinitely until I see the desired result. Using this feature to make detailed changes can potentially save your users a lot of time.
