Gary Neville has praised Liverpool goalkeeper Caouhin Kelleher for his “world class” save to deny Chelsea’s Cole Palmer a goal in the Carabao Cup final.
The match at Wembley remained scoreless, with Chelsea pushing forward and the ball eventually falling to Palmer, who was thwarted by a fine stop from Kelleher.
Neville criticized Raheem Sterling for not taking the shot immediately, but was full of praise for Kelleher’s reaction to Palmer’s shot.
“What a save,” Neville told Sky Sports. It was a great save by Kelleher.
“Chelsea out of nowhere. Robertson somehow rushes into midfield, but Van Dijk can’t get past him.
“I think Raheem Sterling has to bat for the first time, why couldn’t he?”
“But it fell to Cole Palmer and he just tried to slot it in at the near post, but Kelleher, that’s great.”
“He has a world-class goalie in front of him, and he had a world-class moment there.”
Kelleher’s save was also praised on social media, with Joey Barton writing: “What a great save from Kelleher.”
On the other hand, Jan Aage Fjortoft writes: He saved Kelleher!
Another tweeted: “Kelleher. World class save. Alisson would be proud.”
Kelleher has featured frequently in the League Cup for Liverpool, scoring the crucial penalty in the penalty shootout against Jurgen Klopp’s Chelsea in the 2022 final.
