Gardeners’ World host Monty Don has posted a touching tribute to his beloved dog Nigel. Don’s golden retriever appeared regularly on the long-running BBC show.
However, this popular dog passed away in 2020 at the age of 12. Today, May 17th, which would have been Nigel’s 16th birthday, Don published a heartfelt message on his Facebook page. “Today would have been Nigel’s 16th birthday. Let us drink deeply in his memory,” he wrote.

The 68-year-old presenter paid his heartfelt condolences over Nigel’s death in 2020, describing it as a “huge shock and sadness”. He wrote on his website: “He was 12 years old and lived a good life. His end was quick and painless, and after a very happy day he walked and ate without a care in the world. It looked like they were having fun,” he wrote.
Don also revealed how Nigel had “star quality” and was “adored” by the cameras. She added: “He instinctively knew exactly where to lie and how to pose to get the best light, so I didn’t have to tell him where to lie or walk. There was no.”
“He spent every moment of the shoot day with the crew, waiting patiently for his call and then happily repeating the same steps and movements toward the camera over and over again, getting it right every time. Always stole every scene, every show.”
Gardener’s World is on BBC Two tonight at 8pm.
