World leaders including Canada, Israel, France and Estonia were swift to react to Sir Keir Starmer’s landslide victory in today’s general election.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated the Labour leader on his “historic” election victory, becoming one of the first world leaders to offer his congratulations.
“Much work lies ahead to build a more progressive and equitable future for people on both sides of the Atlantic. Let’s get to it, friends,” Trudeau wrote shortly after 5 a.m. this morning.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who is currently campaigning in his home country, also congratulated the new prime minister.
“Congratulations Sir Keir Starmer on your victory,” he wrote.
“I am pleased with these initial discussions and look forward to continuing the work we have begun with the UK on bilateral cooperation, European peace and security, climate and AI.”
