If you’re new to the gym or want to get started but are nervous about not knowing enough, these five tips will help you along the way.
Many people start going to the gym in January, but by February most of them have given up.
Following these five simple tips can change your entire life and approach to working out at the gym.
stretch
This is definitely the most important tip and should be done before lifting any weights. You should stretch for up to five minutes at the beginning and end of every gym session.
If you don’t, you could wake up the next day with a bad injury and be back to square one.
get help
You can never do this alone, especially if you’re really a beginner. Many gyms have staff who are happy to answer any questions you may have about starting a gym.
If not, it might be worth spending a little money on a personal trainer to get started.
focus on correct form
Don’t expect to join a gym and immediately start lifting the heaviest weights or running at your fastest pace.
The most important thing is to make sure things are done correctly. If that means lifting lighter weights, so be it. Make sure you are doing things properly without hurting yourself. Then build from there.
stay consistent
As the old saying goes, you’re rapping everyone on the couch. Even if you don’t do much, if you’re doing something, you’re moving in the right direction.
enjoy it
Many people treat the gym like a chore, but it really doesn’t have to be. Don’t do any exercise that you do every day and end up getting bored or unmotivated.
Instead, find a program that you enjoy, or preferably one that you think you’ll like, and stick with it.
