When it comes to shopping, nothing beats the thrill of finding something vintage or something you love. Much of my free time has been spent scrolling and rummaging through physical stores looking for great second-hand items. And I can say I found some treasures.
What better place to show off the fruits of my labor than at Fashion Week? Normally I’m pretty loose when it comes to planning my outfits, but ahead of the Fall/Winter 2024 show in London, I’ve been planning for a while now. I knew I wanted to wear my favorite vintage pieces that were on my wish list.
Thursday was the official start of London Fashion Week, but I didn’t attend the show that day. But I decided to treat it like “first day” and after searching for the perfect “vintage beaded top” for several months, I decided to pair an intricately beaded floral top I found on Depop with Raey jeans (new season (but it will be in my wardrobe forever) and a vintage faux fur-trimmed suede jacket that I bought seven years ago.
I had a busy schedule the next day, so I wanted to wear something comfortable, so I borrowed a vintage John Galliano dress from London-based vintage platform Barabouux, a vintage aged leather biker jacket from Depop, and Prada biker boots. I bought them at Vestiere Collective last spring and have been wearing them ever since.
As a trainer enthusiast, new season styles from Miu Miu After much searching, I found Prada’s brown oxford brogues on Depop. I also wore one of his favorite jackets. Black leather style with zip embellishment. I found this at a vintage market after months of trying to find vintage bikers online. Both works received many compliments over the weekend.
I would also like to mention those who managed to escape (no, this is currently a work in progress). I was planning to wear a gingham Comme des Garçons skirt that I found at Depop, but I couldn’t make it in time. There will always be another season!
Fashion Week was also a great opportunity to talk to colleagues and industry insiders about our favorite vintage purchases.Englishman trendChioma Nnadi, Head of Editorial Content at The RealReal, says the vintage Prada Fall/Winter 2014 coat she found on The RealReal was the best thing she’s ever bought, and Commerce Editor Joy Montgomery He said he was wearing a JW Anderson x Uniqlo tartan. The skirt she found on Vinted. Meanwhile, junior fashion editor Alex Kessler wore JW Anderson’s Frog “Wellipette” and scored at Depop after missing out last year. “It’s a curveball shoe that’s perfect for any style,” explains Alex, who wore it on Day 4 at Comme des Garçons, which he wore with his vintage Garcon suit (also from Depop).
What’s the best thing about the clothes you wore during LFW? I know I’ll love them for years to come. As with everything we add to our wardrobe, whether new or vintage, we made sure to choose based on quality and compatibility with items you already own to ensure maximum wearability. This required a lot of searching, but it’s actually very satisfying, especially when you find a winner. – But it’s well worth the wait.
