According to Time Magazine, research shows that as many as 80% of people fail to keep their New Year’s resolutions by February, and only 8% stick with them throughout the year. But it’s never too late to make a change. Breaking a habit takes time.
Weight loss expert Amanda, who posts on social media as @ablack_fitness, claims there are common mistakes that many people make when starting their weight loss journey. Fitness experts say demonizing food and fad diets are preventing many people from losing weight and causing them to keep it off.

She understands the frustration of wanting to lose weight quickly, but insists it’s important to first understand your relationship with food. In the video, which has received more than 4,000 likes, the self-proclaimed fat loss expert says, “No matter what kind of intense dieting history we’ve been through, we’re watching this.” I promise most people are you.
“Most of you have been on some sort of diet for decades, but those diets are usually overly restrictive and done behind crazy rules that aren’t realistic in the long run. The first thing we have to do is understand that we need to address our relationship with food as the main driver in our weight loss journey.
“We can’t move forward on the next weight loss journey with a mindset that downplays our relationship with food. What I see many people doing is: ‘Lose weight first. From “Repair Your Relationship with Food” No, friends, it’s a petri dish for gaining weight back.
She said people would “blink and put the weight back on” because food relations are “in the gutter.”
Amanda continued, “I figured out how to stop dieting for a second. I know you’re thinking, ‘I want to lose weight,’ but it’s much easier to learn how to get the calories you need for the first time.” You need to eat enough to really understand how to provide your body with the right amount of energy.
“If you eat enough to nourish your body, you’ll probably lose weight too, because we’re not stuck in the cycle of over-restriction and binge-eating that we’ve been in all along, and then “It’s a nuance of getting out of the mindset of good food and bad food. No food is off-limits.”
TikTok users were stunned to hear the reason for the failure, with comments saying they believed they couldn’t eat the food they liked because it was “bad food.” One user said: “The important thing is not to see food as the enemy. You should enjoy your food while losing weight.”
