Jos Buttler’s side have just one point from two matches and need big wins over their final opponents in Group B, Oman and Namibia, to ensure they qualify for the Super Eight second round.
Oman had no answer to England’s combination of spin and pace, with leg-break bowler Adil Rashid taking 4-11 from his four overs, while fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood both took 3-12.
No.7 Shoaib Khan (11) was the only Oman batsman to reach double figures in the innings, which ended with nearly seven overs remaining.
Oman, already eliminated, had their score narrowly surpassed the lowest score in T20 World Cup history of 39 set by fellow non-Test players Uganda against co-hosts West Indies in Guyana last week after England captain Buttler won the coin toss.
Archer did some early damage with 2-12 from nine balls.
Oman were coming off a tough Super Over defeat to Namibia, followed by heavy losses to Australia and Scotland, playing their final game of the tournament and losing two wickets in Wood’s first over of the match.
Wood caught Zeeshan Maqsood off the first delivery of the match and then Kashyap Prajapati five balls later to leave Oman struggling at 25 for 4 at the end of the powerplay after six overs.
Next up after Rashid on Thursday, wicketkeeper Buttler was lucky to miss the ball on his second attempt, stomping Khalid Khair off Rashid’s first ball.
Then, as wickets fell one after the other, Ayaan Khan played on to score one and Wood took his 50th wicket in T20 international cricket.
