CAMP HUMPHRYS, South Korea – More than a dozen women from U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys participated in a Korean beauty trip to Seoul’s Gangnam district on January 13.
The trip started with a stop at Gangnam Medical Tour Center. The center is a pilot program sponsored by Seoul’s Gangnam District that focuses on assisting foreigners in all medical-related fields, from cosmetics to surgery. The group arrived and was shown to a conference room where staff explained the various services offered.
Participants then receive access to a number of services, including an eye massager, a helmet-shaped device that uses light to stimulate hair growth, and a facial screening device that assesses skin damage and potential problem areas. I was able to try it.
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Gangnam and the many opportunities here,” said Heather McLeod, Director of Workforce Development for the Office of Human Resources. “Korea has a lot of skincare for everything. From basic aqua peels to inmode (laser energy treatments) and glass-faced options, there are plenty of opportunities to make your skin look younger and clearer.” .”
In addition to topical treatments, the group was educated about the use of tea as a traditional health care. Korean tea culture is different from other countries, and Korean tea is not limited to tea leaves. Instead, Koreans have a tradition of drinking teas made from rice, roots, and plants, such as ginseng tea and mandarin peel. They were able to sample different teas and explained which teas are used for fever, pain and detoxification.
The group was then guided to a local Korean restaurant where they had the opportunity to sample Korean BBQ before finishing the tour with a variety of skin treatments before returning to Camp Humphreys.
