Curling players from this region had a disappointing experience at the World Junior Curling Championships.
Dalbeatty’s Orin Carson skipped the Scottish rink featuring his brother Logan and Dumfries duo Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb at a tournament in Finland.
They were hoping to at least match the bronze medal they won at last year’s competition.
However, with a record of 5 wins and 4 losses, although they maintained Scotland’s A status, they were unable to progress beyond the round robin stage.
The rink, coached by Olin and Logan’s father Ryan, began its quest for glory with a comfortable 9-4 win over Canada, but lost 10-6 to both Italy and the United States the following day.
Then they lost 7-5 to Germany, leaving them in a big predicament. However, they bounced back and revived their hopes with two big wins, defeating New Zealand 9-2 and Switzerland 11-2.
They then won against China 6-4, but lost to Denmark 9-7 on the final day of the round-robin, and then won against Norway 7-5 in the final match.
