“For me, my father comes first. I’m here because of him. Everything I’ve achieved is because of him. If I wasn’t there for him in that situation, obviously What kind of son am I?” Chahal told PTI.
“If the series had been played in India, I would have definitely tried to play. I could come to the hospital if I needed to within four or five hours. But of course… [from] South Africa takes 2-3 days to return.
“It was an easy decision to stay with my dad. Any son would make it.”
Chahar said he didn’t have much time to train apart from his fitness-related commitments, but went to NCA to prepare himself for a place in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
“I was in the hospital with my father for 25 days. He was admitted to Aligarh. We all had to stay there,” he said.
“I could only practice a little bit. I couldn’t do any cricket activities. So I wasn’t ready for the Afghanistan series. I didn’t practice for about a month.”
“Then I went to NCA. I started training again and am completely fit now. Everything is going well. I trained hard for the IPL and World Cup.”
Chahar said he has further motivation to make a case for selection considering he has missed the last two T20 World Cups due to injury.
“I missed two. [T20] “I missed the World Cup because of my injury,” he said. “If I had been fully healthy, I would have been part of the World Cup team as well.” In any scenario, in any combination of teams, there are bowlers who can bat at No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9. always requested. I did it and scored for the Indian team. ”
“Dhoni should play for two or three more years.”
“It took me two to three years to feel comfortable around him,” Chahar said of Dhoni. “I look at him as an older brother and I think he treats me like one.
“I can say it is because of him that I got the chance to play for India because before that he gave me a really big chance to play all 14 matches of the IPL in 2018. In 2017, I played in all 14 games.
“Personally, I think he’ll give a lot to his cricket. He could play a couple more seasons. I’ve seen him bat at the net. Obviously, he had an injury that could happen to anyone. Even a 24-year-old has the same injury that he has.
“He’s recovering well. Personally, I think he should be able to play for another two or three years. [But] That’s his call. He told everyone that he was going to play his last match in Chennai. I think it’s just for him to decide. It will be very difficult for us to play in CSK without him.everyone has [always] I watched CSK with Mahibhai,” Chahar said.
“He shouldn’t take it on at the moment because it’s the end of his career. He should enjoy it instead of taking on the responsibility and pressure for the team. We have prepared cricketers, players who can do that job, they are good at it. ”
Chahal said that if the environment in the team is good, players will develop, and drew similarities with Rajasthan, which won the Ranji Trophy in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
“I felt the same environment when I made my debut in Rajasthan. We won two titles. I still remember the atmosphere in the team was completely different,” he said.
“We need to create an environment. The players are the same, the players remain the same.”
