DAYTONA BEACH — Daytona Beach has been selected to receive a $125,000 grant as part of the 2024 Childhood Obesity Prevention Award and Environmental Health and Sustainability Award, it was announced Friday.
This grant will allow more children to attend the Mayor's Math and Fitness Bootcamp program in Daytona Beach. Around 400 disadvantaged children aged five to 14 will be able to take part in a summer session program that uses movement and dance to teach math.
Funding is provided by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America. To date, the organizations have jointly donated $6.5 million to 73 cities to support programs that improve the health, well-being, and environmentally conscious quality of life of children and families.
