- Kim Huybrecht fined £1,500 for slapping Mike Dekker
- The Belgian star attacked a team-mate at Barnsley in November.
- Hybrecht is also at the center of his ongoing feud with Dimitri van den Berg
Darts star Kim Huybrecht has been handed a hefty fine and formal warning for allegedly threatening to “destroy” one of his Belgian team-mates.
The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) fined the Hurricanes £1,500 after a disciplinary committee investigated claims made by Mike Dekker and Dimitri van den Bergh.
He has also received a formal warning and could be suspended if another incident occurs.
Hybrecht is alleged to have slapped De Dekker in the face as he waited for a ride to the airport after a match in Barnsley in November last year.
“I will destroy you!” he is said to have said.
“I swear, this has been on my mind for a long time. You’re first on my list. And your mom too.”
Hybrecht had to be restrained for attacking a teammate, who reportedly later filed formal charges.
Earlier this year, the world No. 32 reportedly made “threatening” comments towards Van den Berg ahead of the World Cup.
“Mike, you know that you might still be able to pitch in this year’s World Cup,” he said, according to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.
“You never know when someone will fall down the stairs.”
The comment appeared to be a flimsy revelation against Van den Berg, Belgium’s usual World Cup partner.
The first match of the tournament against Finland in June was a 4-0 win with the two sides barely seeing each other.
Appearing on Belgian broadcaster VTM News on Tuesday, Mr Huybrecht claimed that his anger towards Mr Dekker was the result of threats he received from his wife.
“My wife had posted a post online saying she was disappointed in the negative things Mike said to me that she overheard while on tour.
“I didn’t tell him about it at the time because I just wanted to avoid a confrontation.
“Then someone from Mike’s family called my wife and made threats to his children as well. As a father, especially when you hear things like that, you want to protect your family.
“Then I snapped. I shouldn’t have reacted that way, and I got a well-deserved reprimand for that. But when it comes to my own family, I get very sensitive. .”
Regarding his feud with Van de Burg, he said, “Dimitri’s wife tried to interfere in my marriage, and I don’t really like it.” I discussed everything I needed with my wife. ”
Last month, Huybrecht insisted he would not relinquish his place in the team after Van den Berg revealed he wanted to play alongside De Dekker.
“I’m not going to give up my spot anyway,” he told Doubletop.
“They can say what they want to say. I also like to play darts [my brother] Ronnie [Huybrechts] But that’s not realistic.
“If they don’t want to pitch with me, they’re going to have to give up themselves. Then I’ll pitch at No. 4 in the rankings.”
