The man shot dead by police in south London while trying to break into a house armed with a crossbow, machete, knife and sword has been named locally as Bryce Hodgson.
In Southwark, police rushed to the scene at around 5am after receiving reports that a man had tried to force his way onto a property, where a 30-year-old man was pronounced dead.
During the attack, Hodgson threatened to harm residents at the address, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said this evening. He was known to at least one of the residents of the house.
Local police attempted to speak to Mr Hodgson, but he was eventually able to gain entry into the house, after which he called for help from armed police.

Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist, who has overall responsibility for firearms, said: “The first unarmed officers responded to the scene after reports of an armed man threatening to harm people at the address. I knew I would arrive.
“Officers knew there were people inside and were genuinely concerned for their safety.
“Armed officers were called and attempted to get the men to surrender. They entered the premises and shots were fired.
