A former Coronation Street woman who stripped on stage at a play has admitted she “didn’t do it to cause a controversy”.
Tracy Shaw shot to fame playing hairdresser Maxine Peacock on the ITV soap, making her debut in 1995. As the wife of butcher Ashley (Stephen Arnold), Maxine was a popular figure on the famous cobbles.
During her time on duty, she was involved in several dramatic storylines, including a one-night stand with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). Even though she was married to Ashley, she also gave birth to a child with a local doctor.

However, in 2003, she was brutally murdered by cobbled-together villain Richard Hillman (Brian Capron), and her time on the show came to an end. After returning home from her pub, she is hit with a crowbar by Richard in an iconic scene.
Since her breakup with Corrie, Tracy began a short-lived pop career in 1998, releasing songs such as “Ridin’ High” and a cover of Ronnie Gordon’s “Happenin’ All Over Again.” She was also awarded Lear of the Year in 1996.
Tracy has kept busy and has made several TV appearances, appearing on Casualty and Doctors. And she’s also done a lot of work in theater over the years.
Especially in 2003, she took off her clothes on stage and revealed everything. The actress gave the audience the full monty in the theatrical show “Blue Room”.
Tracy appeared naked in the film with Jason Connery, son of former James Bond actor Sean. It followed the chain of relationships between a collection of different characters, in which Tracy played her 15 different women.
And despite the uproar, Tracy said at the time that she had no intention of undressing and phasing it out. She revealed: “I don’t really care. People are talking about me getting naked and no one seems to care that Jason is doing the same,” the Argus reported.
In an interview with The Irish Times, she revealed how she chose the risqué parts of the script not because they would shock a few people. Tracy said she “didn’t do it to be controversial. You’ll see it’s not that controversial when you see it.”
The Blue Room first made waves in 1998 when Nicole Kidman starred in it. And now that Tracy has taken over her role, she talks about the differences between her show and Nicole’s. She said: “When Nicole Kidman did it, it was only for a moment, but Jason and I have been naked quite a few times, and most of it is natural nudity.”
