In addition, the purchase of 43 pieces of specialized equipment, including fire protection clothing, fire protection goggles, blowers, fire protection clothing, portable fire extinguishers, and fire extinguisher balls, represents a significant upgrade in the equipment available to frontline staff. . Jayaraj emphasized the versatility of these tools and highlighted their potential in both firefighting operations and providing logistical support to field personnel.
Improve safety and efficiency for frontline staff
The Forest Service is taking a comprehensive approach to protecting front-line workers. The introduction of fire suits and customized backpacks that can hold 5-10 liters of water will help staff stay hydrated and protected while fighting fires. Light and portable, the innovative fire extinguishing ball offers a new method for initial fire extinguishing, especially in areas that are difficult to access. This strategic investment in safety and efficiency underscores the department’s commitment to not only fighting fires but also protecting personnel.
Active efforts and future plans
The ministry has deployed 30 fire wardens and 106 anti-poaching wardens (APW) and rapid response team (RRT) personnel and is actively working to construct a fire line spanning 418 kilometers, of which 150 Kilometers have already been completed. This preparatory work, combined with new equipment, will enable the Coimbatore Forest Department to act quickly and effectively in the event of a forest fire. Jayaraj expressed optimism that these advances will significantly improve the department’s firefighting capabilities, reflecting its forward-thinking approach to environmental management and protection.
The Coimbatore District Forest Department has embraced technology and innovation, and its enhanced firefighting strategies not only promise to improve efficiency and safety, but also set a precedent for forest conservation efforts across the country. This effort reflects growing awareness of the critical need for advanced tools and tactics in the fight against wildfires that protect not only the natural environment but the lives of frontline workers.
