Clapham shooting: 3 people injured after gunman starts fire outside pub

Three people were injured when a moped rider fired shots after being cornered by police in south London.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, just before 5pm on Friday, officers were chasing a moped with two men on board after it failed to stop in the Clapham area.
The force added that the firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was discharged by a rider near Clapham Common Southside.
Two people sustained shotgun pellet injuries and a third was injured by a moped.
The suspect then fled the scene and officers attempted to pursue the moped. The road was blocked.
Police swarmed the High Street after reports of gunfire outside the Belle Veay pub.

Police said the injured are not believed to be in life-threatening condition.
Moped rider fell off, witnesses say
Witnesses wrote on social media that a moped rider knocked it over before filming.
“I saw it all first hand. After a chase from police officers, two men on motorbikes rounded a corner between Tube Station n Sainsbury’s. They ran towards Brixton, pulled out shotguns and “I shot a girl walking across the street,” she wrote.

Moped rider failed to stop, police say
Police said officers were chasing a moped that failed to stop in the Clapham area.
They blocked roads and tried to track the riders.

Sian Cole said he was almost hit by a motorcyclist when he got off at Clapham Common Tube station to join police on the pavement.
she said independent person: “It was very scary because it was rush hour and there were so many people on the scene.
“I was walking and the bike crashed right in front of me.
“Then I saw them get up and run. Then I realized it was a police car because I had my airpods in.
“So I stopped the music and then I heard the shot. It might hit either of us.
“It hit the woman in the foot. They were aiming it at their backs.”

The windows of the Belle Vue pub in Clapham appear to have been shattered in a rush-hour shooting.

“There was police tape, ambulances, helicopters in the air and more police cars arriving at high speed from the direction of Clapham North and Clapham Junction.
“Then I could see what looked like a motorbike on that side. And what looked like a bullet hole in the window of the pub at that crossroads.”

A woman walking through Clapham Southside during busy rush hour was shot in the leg as two men on mopeds fired shotguns chasing police officers.
A witness said: “I didn’t see blood but I saw her touching her leg in pain. Other victims I didn’t understand.
“They must have been trying to fire at the officers behind them, but they ended up hitting the people around them.”
