NEW DELHI: India celebrated their T20 World Cup win with a grand parade in Mumbai, causing chaos in the city. The parade, which was delayed by two hours due to crowd disorder, began after Rohit Sharma and his team arrived around 5 pm on Thursday.
Footage circulating online showed fans gathering in large numbers to watch the victory parade losing numerous slippers, with the chaos leaving debris and lost footwear strewn along the parade route.

Prior to the parade, the team held a breakfast meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi before returning from Barbados early in the morning and flying out to Mumbai at 3:42 pm.
The Wankhede Stadium, the iconic venue that witnessed India’s victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup, was packed with enthusiastic fans within minutes of opening. The stadium’s capacity was soon reached, forcing authorities to close the gates around 5 pm, leaving thousands of fans stranded outside.
Inside the stadium, fans braved rain, humidity and lack of food and water, determined to celebrate their team’s victory. Intermittent rain kept fans in their seats as DJs played a variety of tunes to keep them entertained, and popular songs like Vengaboys’ “To Brazil” and the unofficial sports anthem “Chak de India” blared from the speakers, creating an atmosphere of a rainy dance party.
The stadium erupted with chants of “Sachin… Sachin”, “Mumbaicha Raja, Rohit Sharma!” and “India… India”, reflecting the unwavering support and passion of Indian cricket fans.
