After a day of former President Donald Trump’s gaffes in several campaign speeches, CBS’ Margaret Brennan asked Republican senators about Trump’s mental state.
In an interview with Let’s face the nation On Sunday, Brennan played a clip that upset President Trump. joe biden with former president barack obama. She then asked Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) about President Trump’s cognitive functioning.
“I know you support Trump,” Brennan said. “It seemed like he was there to confuse Biden and Obama. He also suggested that there are U.S. troops in Ukraine. Are you okay with his mental state?”
“Compared to the current president?” Sullivan said. “110 percent. And I think, as your polls show, the American people are really concerned about where President Biden stands in terms of his fitness to be president, especially his mental acuity. . And I don’t even think it’s a close call compared to President Biden or even compared to former President Trump when you see the two of them in action.”
According to a CBS poll cited by Sullivan, only 32% of voters believe Biden has the necessary mental and cognitive health to serve as president. But the same poll also shows that a majority of voters don’t believe Trump has the necessary mental and cognitive health, and that Trump checks those boxes. Only 49% believe it, and 51% have not checked it.
Brennan also pointed out that Trump advocated for American troops.
They are fighting on the ground in Ukraine, which is false.
“To be clear, there are no U.S. troops on the battlefield in Ukraine,” Brennan said. “We have military advisors. But we don’t have an army, right?”
Sullivan jokingly replied, “I want to get back to who has shown more mental fitness to be president. I don’t even think it’s a close call between President Trump and President Biden at this point.” .
