The British Miss World contestant said, “I want to go to space.”
Aerospace engineering graduate and Miss England Jessica Gegen is one of 120 candidates vying for the Miss World title in India.
During the competition, the 27-year-old from West Lancashire said she wanted to discuss decarbonising the aviation industry.
Meanwhile, Miss Wales Darcy Collier, 22, wants to talk about food shortages in her home country and elsewhere.
Dr Evanna McMahon, 28, a practicing doctor, part-time model and Miss Ireland, plans to raise awareness about dyslexia and education.
The women will compete in rounds that will assess their talent, athletic ability, debate, ability as a model, ability to engage with an audience, and charity projects.
Speaking from New Delhi on Tuesday, Ms Gegen told the PA news agency: “Obviously people are not expecting aerospace engineering to be included in Miss England or Miss World.
“It’s really getting attention. A lot of people are like, wow, why does she do both? It’s purely because it can get more girls into this industry.
“I’ve always been very interested in the movement of vehicles in space, so I was interested in us reaching space, not necessarily in astronomy.
“I want to go to space and do scientific research to help people on Earth.”
She said she was inspired to go into space after meeting British astronaut Tim Peake while completing her degree at the University of Liverpool.
Wales, who broke her neck, jaw, pelvis and back in a car accident last year, said she hopes to be able to participate in all areas of the pageant.
Coria, a freelance model from Bury, told PA that her mother signed her up to be Miss Wales when she was 16.
“I want to be that for young girls of mixed ethnic Asian and black ethnicity in Wales and be that message that your ethnicity can actually be your superpower. And that’s what really set me apart.” Miss Wales. ”
In the debate section, she wants to discuss food insecurity. One reason for this is that she “saw it first hand” during her travels to Wales and England, and to Ghana in West Africa.
She said: ‘People living in low-income areas (in the UK) where people of color are the majority are really suffering, and people are being forced to choose between paying rent (and heating).
“The person next to you may be starving and you may not know it.”
Dr McMahon, from Ennis, Co. Clare, was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 17 and uses her Miss Ireland work to talk to children about education and mental and physical health.
She travels to India with a 30kg harp for talent rounds and also plays drums, fiddle and harmonica.
“As Evanna McMahon myself, I have a lot to say, but when you have the opportunity to stand on stage as Miss Ireland, people listen to you.
“You can accomplish amazing things even if you have dyslexia. It doesn’t hold you back.”
Organizers say Miss World is eliminating the swimsuit category and focusing on the “Beauty with a Purpose” category, which was launched in 1972 and examines candidates’ philanthropy.
The winner will work on humanitarian projects around the world.
Previous Miss World winners include top Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Lady Wilnelia Merced, who was married to the late Strictly Come Dancing host Bruce Forsyth.
Notable contestants include American actress Halle Berry and Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh.
The winner of Miss World will be announced on March 9 in Mumbai.
