A British skier has died while descending the Pas de Chabanet.

British skier dies after falling down one of the world’s steepest runs in the Swiss Alps
The 47-year-old was skiing down the Pas de Chabanette, also known as the Swiss Wall, which was closed due to dangerous ice.
The man fell 400 meters from the ski slope. The man was with another skier and snowboarder at the time.
“Despite the prompt intervention of rescue services, the victim, a British national residing in the United Kingdom, died at the scene of the accident,” the statement said.
An investigation has been launched and the victim and his companion will be questioned as to why they were on the slopes, where road closure signs and netting were clearly posted.

An unofficial website states that the Swiss Wall is “one of the most difficult slopes in the world” and that “only skiers of the highest level can climb it in optimal conditions.”
The Swiss Tourism Board says on its website: The mountain slopes very steeply on the east side of Chabanet Pass. The slope here is up to 56 percent. ”
“Due to the extreme angle, the slopes cannot be groomed with snow compactors. Mogul slopes are only suitable for experienced skiers or snowboarders.”
