She recently shared her passionate thoughts on beauty trends and makeup with Business Insider.
She loves celebrities who wear no makeup, but she’s not a fan of trendy items like lip oil.
Who knows more about makeup than Bobbi Brown?
The 66-year-old beauty mogul has been a mainstay in the cosmetics industry since founding her first beauty brand, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, in 1991.
Of course, a lot has changed since then, with Brown selling his namesake company in 1995, leaving in 2016, and launching a new brand called Jones Road in 2020.
But through it all, she remained an icon and a household name. Her fans have been following her every career move, from the release of her nine books to her recent rise to fame on TikTok.

Things changed when Dior launched a $40 lip oil in 2020. TikTokers have fallen in love with the product, and now brands like NYX, Merit, Haus Labs, and ELF Cosmetics are creating their own versions.
But what exactly is lip oil? Although it looks similar to lip gloss, it’s generally more moisturizing and better for the skin thanks to ingredients like natural oils, vitamins, and hyaluronic acid, as reported by Elise Tabin. Beneficial. birdie.
But Brown doesn’t fully understand its appeal. When asked about the popularity of lip oil, she simply replied, “Lip oil is not new and it’s too greasy for me.”
And she’s right about the first part. Brands like Clarins were releasing lip oils long before Dior became all the rage.
Nor does she decide to use liquid blush just because it’s trendy.

Name a beauty brand and there’s a good chance they offer a liquid blush in their product lineup.
Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty led the way in 2019 with the launch of its $23 Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. This product is extremely popular among makeup fans. reported by bloomberg In 2023, the brand’s blush sales alone reached $70 million.
But even though liquid formulas from Rare Beauty and other brands are all the rage, Brown says you shouldn’t choose your blush based on which type is trending.
“It depends on your skin,” she told BI. “Any blush that suits you and matches your skin tone will do. It doesn’t matter whether it’s liquid, cream, or something else.”

Although stars like Charlize Theron have warned against participating in this trend, many people are still into the thin, perhaps over-plucked brow look that was popular in the 1990s.
Models like Bella Hadid and Gabrielette have been experimenting with the style over the past year.
But when asked what she would do if the thin eyebrow trend came back in full force, Brown was quick to say, “Run in the opposite direction.”
“Last time they were increasing, I allowed them to happen,” she added. “And the thing I would most like to have back is bushy eyebrows.”
In her opinion, fake freckles can be cute in some cases.

Beauty influencers and makeup artists have well embraced fake freckles for years, most recently on TikTok in 2023. Brands like Freck Beauty have also emerged, selling products that create freckles with just the swipe of a pen.
But what does Brown think about natural-inspired makeup?
After a moment of hesitation, she laughed and said: “It’s cute. I’m going to take a photo with it.”

The grunge beauty look, with its unkempt hair, smudged eye makeup, loose glow, and pale lips, has taken TikTok by storm and has recently become popular among stars like Hailey Bieber.
Of course, these modern looks are inspired by the grunge style of the late ’80s and early ’90s, where Brown started her career.
“When grunge makeup first became popular, thank you, Marc Jacobs, I was the makeup artist for Glamour and Mademoiselle,” she told BI.“The cover came into view now: ‘Grunge makeup. Grunge clothes.'” So I was there for the original, and I understood that at the time, but I understand that now. not. ”
After all, Brown Makeup’s mission is to help people look effortlessly beautiful and embrace their natural features.
“You know the Jones Road hashtag? It’s #HowNotToLookLikeShit,” she said. “I always just want to look good.”
Brown loves when celebrities embrace bare-faced looks at big events.

“When I hear a celebrity say they don’t make up, I think, ‘Girl, you’ve got eyebrows and you’ve got mascara,'” Brown said. “But Pamela Anderson? I love her.”
Anderson told Elle in 2023: she stopped wearing makeup after her longtime friend and makeup artist Alexis Vogel died of breast cancer.
She wears a natural look at big events like Paris Fashion Week, and last year she attended in stunning fashion with almost no makeup.
“I mean, my dream is to give her no makeup,” Brown said of Anderson.
The makeup icon and her beauty brand have a unique take on influencers.

In many ways, Jones Road doesn’t need to work with influencers.
“We will never do the same thing as other brands, because number one, they have me,” Brown told BI.
But many content creators also don’t fit Brown’s vision for the brand.
“When I saw girls with their nails this big, sticking their hands in Miracle Balm and putting on too much makeup, I was like, ‘No, no, no, no.'” This. There has to be someone who cares about the brand.’ And we found them,” she said.
So Brown and Jones-Lord introduced her to “Bobby’s friends,” people she discovered naturally who happened to have a lot of social media followers.
These everyday people — among them; local restaurant hostesssomeone brown We met at the farmers market.and “Gray-haired Wisdom who started out as a fitness influencer” – models for Jones Road products and works closely with the brand.
“So we don’t pay influencers,” she said. “we do Hire content creators. ”
