Blink Fitness, which has a network of 12 gyms in the Bronx, will open its doors on International Women’s Day with a new Girls in the Weight Room (GITWR) event. The training sessions, aimed at girls aged 14 to 17, will be taught the basics of weightlifting at business locations across the borough to commemorate Women’s History Month.
GITWR is a free, one-time event open to non-members on March 8th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. During the training sessions, we will teach the girls how to create an exercise plan, what weight machines are and how to use them. How to warm up and cool down, how to choose the right weight according to your ability, etc.
Instruction will be provided by Blink Fitness personal trainers, and Blink Fitness President Guy Harkless says they will provide tailored instruction and serve as an educational resource for girls new to the world of weightlifting. Says.

“Having a great first experience, coming with a well-known personal trainer who knows how to provide proper discipline and focus on using the machines, is a very important part of what we are trying to create.” part,” Harkless said.
According to Harkless, research shows that ages 14 to 17 are the best time for women to start weight training. Girls who attend GITWR events can earn her a free one-year membership to a Blink Fitness gym to continue her weight training.
The event is an addition to Blink Fitness’ other women’s training course, the Women In The Weight Room (WITWR) program, which launched last year and attracted approximately 2,900 participants across New York over four weeks. I will.
Free WITWR classes for adult women will be held every Thursday in March from 7-8 p.m.

Harkless said Blink Fitness Gym has seen an increase in female weightlifting participants over the past year following the March WITWR program.
GITWR events are hosted in collaboration with community partners Girls on the Run, Good Sports, Girls Rules, and Dream Academy.
“Each is deeply connected to the community they serve,” Harkless said. “We operate on a large scale, so we need to work with great community partners.”
Each Blink Fitness gym has the capacity to comfortably accommodate approximately 25 girls for a GITWR session. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
